Bruno Apresa was a soldier in the 200th Cavalry Regiment of the Mexican Army who was executed on April 29, 1904, in the Llanos de la Vaquita, near Mexico City. He was convicted of insubordination with physical violence against a superior officer and for causing the death of an officer. The crime occurred in January 1902 when Apresa was on guard duty at a corral in the town of Cuautitl\u00e1n. According to the official version, Apresa refused to obey orders from his superior, Lieutenant Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Flores, and struck him with his weapon. Flores died from the injuries.<\/p>\n
Apresa was tried and sentenced to death. His appeal to the Supreme Military Tribunal was rejected, and his execution was ordered by President Porfirio D\u00edaz. Apresa's execution was a highly publicized event in Mexico. It became a symbol of the injustice and brutality of the D\u00edaz regime.
