"El Asesinato de Leandra Martínez por su hermano Manuel" (The Murder of Leandra Martinez by her brother Manuel) was the title of the original broadside illustrated by this image by the great Mexican master engraver Jose Guadalupe Posada. Printed on fine cotton paper from the original plates by the Taller de Grafica Popular after they were discovered by Pablo O'Higgins.
The sensationalist note recounts the bloody crime that occurred in the early 20th century in which Manuel Martínez, blinded by rage and family disputes, brutally murders his own sister, Leandra Martínez, stabbing her in the back with a bladed weapon in the presence of a terrified witness.
Original copies are preserved in the print collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) in New York and in the Library of Congress of the United States.
