Description

Joaquin Gasgonia Palencia Pair of Steel Suede Vinta Chairs Philippines BALAICO

Rest in the unique elegance of this very rare pair of chairs designed by the renowned Filipino artist, Joaquin Gasgonia Palencia. Known as the "Vinta Chairs," these pieces embody postmodern style, capturing the essence of the Vinta boats sailing the waters of southern Philippines. Expertly crafted in suede and steel in the first half of the 1990s, these chairs were showcased at the prestigious Milan Furniture Fair, highlighting their international relevance.

Each chair bears Palencia's distinctive signature and is marked with a unique serial number on its underside, ensuring authenticity. This design was part of the first furniture collection under the brand BALAICO, Arete-Ugama Corporation, establishing itself as an iconic work in the artist's career.

Inspired by the iconic Vinta boats traditionally used by local fishermen, these chairs reflect the grace and vibrant maritime culture of the Philippines. The design of the chairs pays homage to the distinctive triangular sail of the Vintas, their colorful hull, and the craftsmanship of Muslim boat builders in the region of Zamboanga City in Mindanao.

Joaquin Gasgonia Palencia, globally recognized as an artist and humanitarian doctor, has evolved from his early work in the 1990s to become the creative director of Gasp Furniture Co. His ability to merge art and functionality is reflected in every detail of these chairs, making them not just pieces of furniture but expressions of his creative genius.

Discover the connection between history, art, and functionality with this pair of Vinta chairs, an exceptional addition to your space that transcends time and trends.
