Miriam Medrez Rudman is a prominent Mexican artist born in Mexico City on October 15, 1958. From an early age, she demonstrated a deep connection with art, especially sculpture. Her first forays into the art world were self-taught, exploring various techniques and materials. A fascination with the human body and its ability to express emotions and narratives became a central theme in her work.
Medrez began her artistic training at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, in 1979, where she specialized in visual arts. She later continued her studies with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts at UNAM. In 1997, she worked as a teaching assistant at Bezalel University in Jerusalem, Israel.
Her first group exhibition took place in 1981 at the Israelite Sports Center in Mexico City. Her first solo exhibition, "Las gordas, los perros y el mar" ("The Fat Women, the Dogs, and the Sea"), was held at the Casa de la Cultura in Monterrey in 1984.
Medrez has had numerous important exhibitions throughout her career in Mexico and abroad in countries such as Austria, Canada, China, France, Ireland, Denmark, the United States, Israel, and Venezuela. Her work is part of significant collections and has been exhibited in various renowned cultural institutions. She is recognized for her portrayal of the female body, particularly in her fabric sculpture projects.
Miriam Medrez continues to work actively in the art world, exploring new techniques and themes in her pieces from her studio in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico.
