Alejandro Mojica

Alejandro Mojica Díaz was born on July 18, 1955, in Teocaltiche, Jalisco, Mexico. He is a prominent musician, visual artist, and cultural manager.
He studied at the School of Arts and Crafts and music at the Autonomous University of Sinaloa. He has served as director of Visual Arts at the Casa de la Cultura of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa. He has also held positions such as director of artistic programming at the Sinaloan Institute of Culture (ISIC) and director of Artistic Activities at the now-defunct DIFOCUR (now ISIC).
He has participated in nearly 140 collective exhibitions in places such as the first and second biennial of Diego Rivera in Guanajuato, Three of Latin America in Peru, First Biennial of the Caribbean in the Dominican Republic, Art Fair of Chicago, and Brussels. Individually, he has held around 40 exhibitions both in Mexico and abroad.
His painting is figurative and modern. He developed a particular style with a language that evolves around indigenous themes. His works are characterized by thick textures and tones such as red, electric blue, yellow, and bright orange. He represents anthropomorphic and mythological beings from ancestral indigenous cultures of Mexico.
Among his outstanding works are the series Territories, White Lines, Dialogue on Desire, Masks, Snakes, and Ladders. He has also created murals, such as "Quetzalcoatl" in Jericho Beach, Vancouver, Canada, and "Juya-Annia" at the Culiacan International Airport, Sinaloa, Mexico.
His visual artwork has received various awards, scholarships, and prizes. He currently resides in Culiacan, Sinaloa.
